Historical Homes of Lubbock, Texas
I created the first website for the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce some years ago, and as part of that, I did one of the first online histories of Lubbock. Later, I also did the first Website for the Country of Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and that was an odd feeling, going from a history of just over 100 years for Lubbock and the one of Egypt going back about 10,000 years, though the civilization part of that was about 5,000 years. But one gets too old to go back and forth to Egypt so today I'm doing photography in Lubbock, but I still love history.
I've decided to slowly and as I have time photograph many of the historic Houses of Lubbock. Most are not even 100 years old, but they are still interesting to me. Look for a lot of updates as I add more houses. MORE
Dog Parks of Lubbock, Texas
Photographer & Drone Pilot: Jimmy Dunn
There are three off-leash dog parks in Lubbock, and by summer there should be a fourth. Of the three that are currently open, Canyon Run Dog Park in MacKenzie Park is the largest with a 2.64-acre large dog area for dogs 30 pounds and larger, and a 1.02-acre small dog area for dogs under 30 pounds This park has double gates, sidewalks, restroom, benches, covered benches, shade trees, and dog friendly water fountains.
From what I can tell, Canyon Run Dog Park is also probably the busiest. Seems that there are almost always dogs there, though I have seen them mix large and small breed dogs in one of the areas when there were not enough dogs present.
After that, the HubCity Unleased, located at Clapp Park, is the second largest with a 1.1-acre large dog area for dogs 30 pounds and larger, and a .31 acre small dog area for dogs under 30. It too has double gates, sidewalks, a restroom, benches, covered benches, shade trees, and dog friendly water fountains.
The smallest park is best known as the Private Park, though it's called the Elm Park Dog Park. Located obviously in Elm Park off Oakridge Street. It is the smallest park, but it also includes an obstacle course. The dog park belongs to the nearby apartments but apparently, anyone can use the park.
This summer, the dog park at McAlister Park should be completed. When it is, it will be the largest of the dog parks in Lubbock. Located near Milwaukee Avenue and the Marsha Sharp Freeway, it will cover 5 acres of land. It should have most of the same amenities as the other parks, but perhaps a bit nicer. It looks like most of the seating is covered, which is not the case with the other parks.
Dammit Janet and I have really enjoyed the dog parks. It's an excellent way to socialize a dog, though the dog should already be socialized to other dogs enough not to fight.
Most of the dog parks operate under the following rules: Hours: 6 am - 10 pm Use at your own risk. Owners are legally responsible for the actions and behavior of their dog(s) at all times. Dogs must be leashed while entering and exiting the dog park. Dog waste must be cleaned up by their owners IMMEDIATELY. Owners must be within the dog park and supervising their dog(s) with leash ready. Dog handlers must be at least 16 years of age. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times. Dogs should be under voice control. Excessive barking is not allowed. All dogs must wear a collar with a current rabies tag and identification. Owner should fill any holes their dog(s) digs. Prohibited: Human and dog food and treats, Glass containers, Sick Dogs, Aggressive dogs, Puppies under 4 months old
