Restoration and Enhancement

Restoration and enhancement are two very different things. Restoration implies taking a photo of a certain size that may be torn, scratched, faded, or have other defects and restoring it to its original condition and size. That means that the photo may not look all that good, depending on what the original photo would have looked like. If the original photo was overall good, was well focused, and fairly large, that may work out fine. But in most instances, that's not the case; usually, it's not what people want. Most people want their restored photos to look better than the original and very often much larger at the very least. They also want them to be enhanced.

Enhancement includes many editing techniques, from enlargement without losing focus or inserting more grain, to better focus than the original, to even colorization, among other efforts.

Unfortunately, today there is considerable deception when it comes to restoration and enhancement. Several businesses advertise cheap restorations that consist mostly of running the photo through some software that attempts restoration without much attention to what the original photograph needs. For example, it's very difficult to simply remove dust and scratches in one operation without blurring the photo. Many must be taken out carefully by hand. Colorization may leave a photo looking cartoonish.

Some photos may require very little work and a bargain price is warranted. It's not hard to enrich a faded photo in many cases or to bring many faces into focus, but others require hours and sometimes in the worse cases, days of work.

We love doing restoration and enhancement work and with some 30 years of experience with photoshop and years more experience with other restoration software, we are well-equipped to bring your memories back to life.

We do restoration and enhancement for people all over the world, but it's nice for people to bring in their projects here in Lubbock, Texas

I have developed a reputation of restoring some of the worst photos around. The one below, for example, was not a photo at all, but about a quarter inch of film which was made into an image that could have been printed out to more than 20  inches.
